Ownership and History
ASRC Communications is a wholly-owned subsidiary of an Alaska Native Corporation - the Inupiat Tribe's Arctic Slope Regional Corporation (ASRC). Based in Anchorage and Barrow, AK, our parent company receives revenue from Alaska 's North Slope oil and gas leases and from its numerous subsidiaries across the United States . Founded in 1971 as a result of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANSCA), our parent has become the largest of the Alaska Native Corporations owning numerous operating subsidiaries across the United States with annual revenues of over $1.6 billion. ASRC has roughly $3.25 billion in assets and, since 1995, has been ranked the largest Alaskan-owned company. ASRC Communications is one of several subsidiary ANCs - each one specializing in specific services -who support Federal Government agencies.
Financial Resources
ASRC Communications has the solid financial foundation of a much larger business. ASRC , our parent company, with its 27 subsidiaries, has over 5,000 employees and generates over $1.6 billion in annual revenue. Our parent uses a centralized treasury that provides a generous line of credit to each of its ANC subsidiaries. With this financial backing, ASRCC does not need credit from commercial banks or other lending institutions. ASRCC has current access to a $70 million dollar line of credit with our parent company. We can readily fund acquisitions, start-up operations for new contracts, and respond to project tasking and resource needs on a moment's notice without consideration of any financial encumbrances. Our current cash position is such that it will continue to finance our operations with little or no assistance from outside resources.
Joint Ventures
We are co-owners of two joint venture companies; one that provides Information Technology and Information Systems (IT / IS) support to its customer and another that is developing broadband undersea communication links.
Specifically, ASRCC is one of two joint venture founders and the minority owner of NJVC, LLC -- an ANC dedicated to establishing new IT infrastructure services across a broad range of technical and administration operations for the NGA. ASRCC is also leading the effort to establish another joint venture called Ocean Fiber, LLC to lay an undersea fiber-optic cable across the Gulf of Mexico . When complete, the cable will enable oil and gas companies in the Gulf of Mexico to communicate and transmit large amounts of data across a high-capacity, broadband network replacing their dependence on unreliable microwave and low-bandwidth satellite communications.
